How this list is built
Top Tables uses the same scoring engine as the Top 100 — points for public facts of professional recognition with the same weights, one-year-half-life decay, tiebreaks, and suspension rule — with one added eligibility criterion:
Full table service required.Every establishment here is a sit-down dining room — seated service with a front-of-house team. We classify service format by how each restaurant actually operates (curated and periodically reviewed); counter-service spots, stands, food trucks, and bars are out of scope for this list regardless of how much recognition they hold. That's a format filter, not a quality judgment — a James Beard-recognized barbecue counter outranks most dining rooms on the Top 100.
Juried hospitality ratings — Forbes Travel Guide stars and AAA Diamond designations— count here exactly as they do on the Top 100 (they simply concentrate among full-service rooms). When the Michelin Guide's Southwest selection publishes (announced for August 26, 2026), stars enter at the top of the weight table automatically.
Known limitations: restaurants on tribal land (e.g. Kai at Wild Horse Pass, Orange Sky at Talking Stick) hold no Maricopa County permit and no county health record, so they cannot appear on any PlateScore list — however decorated. Service-format classification is curated by us and could misjudge edge cases; tell us if we've got one wrong. Each entry links to its full inspection record.
